Ottawa hosts event marking 34th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy

An event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy was held in Ottawa, jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada and the Fund for Support to Azerbaijan Diaspora.

In addition to Embassy staff, representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, the local community, and students studying in Ottawa attended the event.

The program began with a one-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.

In his speech, Chargé d’Affaires Vusal Suleymanov provided a detailed account of the Khojaly tragedy, describing it as one of the bloodiest chapters of the systematic policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out against Azerbaijanis by Armenians since the early 20th century.

The event also featured speeches by members of the Azerbaijani community, and attendees were shown photographs and a film documenting the horrors of the tragedy.
