A phone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Anita Anand.
During the call, the sides expressed deep concern over the military escalation observed in the region and the increasing security risks.
The importance of preventing further deterioration of the situation, intensifying diplomatic efforts, and ensuring respect for the norms and principles of international law within this framework was emphasized.
Minister Anita Anand expressed her gratitude to the Azerbaijani side for facilitating the transit of Canadian citizens who were in Iran during last June’s military escalation through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was noted that the prompt and humanitarian support provided at that time was highly appreciated.
Taking into account the current security environment, the sides also exchanged views on possible prospects for the use of Azerbaijan’s border for the evacuation of Canadian citizens from Iran, should the need arise.
