Minister Bayramov meets the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization

On January 29, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked the WCO for its support in the 30 years of operation of the Customs Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Secretary General for his role in ensuring effective cooperation with the organization. The Minister congratulated Kunio Mikuriya on being awarded the “Order of Friendship” on January 29, 2022 by the relevant Order of the President.​

Touching upon Azerbaijan's strategic position as a country located at the junction of various routes and bridges between East and West, the Minister spoke about the transit opportunities of our country. Noting that so far major projects of international importance have been successfully implemented in the region, especially in the field of energy and transport, the Minister stressed the importance of taking advantage of the vast opportunities created by the current situation with the support and experience of the WCO.​

Speaking about the post-conflict situation in the region, the Minister noted that there are opportunities for the normalization of relations between the two countries and that Azerbaijan has taken concrete steps in this regard. He brought to the attention of the opposite side that our country is the initiator of the opening of transport and communication lines in the region.​

Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya thanked Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for the warm welcome. He noted that Azerbaijan is a good model country, especially in the field of customs, and always recommended that other countries, especially the Eurasian region and Central Asia, benefit from this experience. The Secretary General stressed the importance of taking steps to build mutual trust for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the implementation of joint projects of international and regional nature. He noted that the WCO is ready to support this process.​

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov praised the Secretary General's visit to Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Azerbaijani customs service, noting that he would spare no effort to further develop cooperation with the opposite side.
