97TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AZERBAIJAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC IPAD ESSAY CONTEST

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada announces an essay contest dedicated to the 97th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920); the first parliamentary democracy in the Muslim Orient, which pioneered many democratic reforms in the Muslim world, such as granted suffrage to women in 1918. The contest is aimed at increasing awareness in Canadian academia and public about Azerbaijan and its history.

Winners of the competition will be awarded new IPADs. The deadline for essay submissions is July 1, 2015.

State Program on Education of Azerbaijani Youth Abroad in the Years 2007-2015

As of July 1, 2014 the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) has been financing the education of 2392 students within the framework of the State Program on education of Azerbaijani youth abroad for the years of 2007-2015 (State Program).

Most of the students studying under this Program are enrolled in the academic institutions of Great Britain (25.6%), Turkey (21.9%), Germany (15.6%), Canada (7,9%) and Russia (4,4%).

Studying At ADA University Of Azerbaijan

ADA University has announced that the enrollment of its undergraduate and graduate programs is currently underway.

Azerbaijan: 20 Years of Independence Essay Contest

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada conducted its first essay contest dedicated to the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The contest aimed increasing awareness about Azerbaijan in Canadian academia as well as formulating policy recommendations for the country's future development.

The contest was completed on February 2012 with three authors of the best essays being awarded new iPADs. Moreover, the winner of the contest got a chance to conduct a field study trip to Azerbaijan.

AZERBAIJAN: ALIMARDAN TOPCHUBASHOV'S 150TH ANNIVERSARY ESSAY CONTEST

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada ran an essay contest dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Alimardan Topchubashov (1863-1934), prominent Azerbaijani politician, Foreign Minister and speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (1918-1920). The contest aimed at increasing awareness in Canadian academia about Azerbaijan's history, especially the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic - first parliamentary democracy in Muslim Orient, which pioneered many democratic reforms in the Muslim world, such as granted suffrage to women in 1918.

The contest was wrapped up on February 10th 2014. The following students with the most impressive essays became the iPAD Air winners:

What Do I Know About Azerbaijn? Essay Contest

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Canada with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted an essay contest on the subject of "What do I know about Azerbaijan?" The contest was concluded on April 1st, 2014, and the following students won a 10-day trip to Azerbaijan:

KHAZAR UNIVERSITY SCHOLARHSIP PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Cooperation between academic institutions

Baku State University & Waterloo University

President of the University of Waterloo Feridun Hamdullahpur paid a visit to Azerbaijan from October 31 to November 1, 2013. During the visit, Mr. Hamdullahpur held a number of meetings with Azerbaijan's Minister of Education Mr. Mikayil Jabbarov and the Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Mr. Ali Abbasov. During the trip, Mr. Hamdullahpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Baku State University (BSU). The agreement encourages and enables first-year BSU students to apply for admission to undergraduate programs in Waterloo's faculties of Mathematics and Science.

Azerbaijan Academy of Public Administration & Carleton University

In January 2014, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Carleton University's Centre for Governance and Public Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding detailing a range of academic cooperation activities. The agreement reflects growing academic and cultural relationships between Azerbaijan and Canada. The two institutions have agreed to exchange professors and senior researchers to teach and collaborate on research and, eventually, to exchange students.
